Whether you’ve just started to look for a bridal gown, are close to a decision, or working on making alterations to one you already love, consider these five bridal trends all brides should know about:

1) Exaggerated sleeves are all the rage
Brides’ eyes are on the sleeves — of their wedding dresses, that is. Exaggerated sleeves add elegance and movement to the silhouette of a classic wedding gown, and they look very new and couture. And “exaggerated” doesn’t just have one meaning, either — brides are buying and loving wedding dresses with flared, puffed, or even completely lace sleeves.

2) Meghan Markle has made a big impact
Since the most recent Royal Wedding, brides and bridal shops everywhere can’t get enough of Meghan Markle’s simple and elegant style. And it makes sense — between the long sleeves, clean lines, and gorgeous silhouette, she looked beautiful in a classic, gorgeous gown! Wearing bridal gowns like Meghan’s may be a trend, but it’s not one that will go out of style — your photos will remain timeless due to the simplicity of the design.

3) Capes are the new veil
Move over, wedding veils — for now, at least! Capes are quickly replacing veils as a preferred bridal gown accessory. We’re actually seeing capes everywhere in fashion right now, from business suits to everyday casual wear, and bridal gowns are no exception. Like veils, there are a lot of different types of capes you can choose, depending on how you want to look and feel on your wedding day, as well as on the theme of your wedding, and the style of your dress. Some brides prefer lacy, flowy capes, while others are drawn to more structured styles that look more powerful and couture.

4) Removable skirts give 2 looks with 1 dress
Many brides are deciding to get the best of both worlds — and more — by wearing bridal gowns with removable skirts. You get two looks with one dress, and you can move and dance more freely at your reception once you transition into a silhouette with less volume. Plus — and for many brides, this is the best part — you don’t have to pay for two wedding dresses to get two looks. Talk with sales associates at any bridal shop you visit, as well as the tailor who will make alterations to your gown, to see if this is a possibility for you!

5) Corset bodices are the new strapless
While strapless bridal gowns were in style a few years back, brides are switching to corset bodices instead — and we love the way they look! A corset bodice on your gown will ensure the gown will fit you perfectly, creating a gorgeous silhouette and making sure brides are comfortable without worrying about a wardrobe malfunction! Plus, we’re loving the dramatic contrast between a fitted corset bodice and a long and elegant or ball gown style skirt.

All five of these current bridal trends are gorgeous, and we love seeing the new styles of exaggerated sleeves, capes, corsets, and more. If any of these bridal trends catch your eye, make sure to mention that when you visit the bridal salon to search for your perfect dress.
